O-Gusto Coffee Packaging Design

A renowned international coffee and tea brand, I developed the O-Gusto coffee packaging design, highlighting five distinct coffee varieties: espresso, lungo, cappuccino, latte macchiato, and café au lait. This coffee packaging project focused on creating unique and visually appealing designs that capture the essence of each coffee type while ensuring brand consistency.

Client Overview

Cantata is a leading coffee and tea brand with a rich legacy of delivering over 260 coffee and tea types sourced from more than 70 countries. Established in 2000, Cantata now boasts over 350 stores across Europe and beyond, providing a diverse array of flavors for coffee lovers. This coffee packaging project was an opportunity to elevate Cantata’s image on shelves through captivating, high-quality packaging designs.

Project Goal

Cantata required an eye-catching, cohesive packaging design for their O-Gusto coffee line that would instantly resonate with customers. The packaging needed to reflect each coffee variety’s unique qualities whether it’s the boldness of espresso, the smoothness of café au lait, or the richness of cappuccino while ensuring a modern and attractive look on store shelves.

Solution and Process

To achieve a standout design for each coffee variety, I developed a unique color-coded system, with each coffee type espresso, lungo, cappuccino, latte macchiato, and café au lait having a dedicated color that enhances brand recognition and guides customer choices effortlessly. The entire process, from concept to execution, was done individually and included:

➤ Comprehensive research into Cantata’s brand values and audience.
➤ Initial concept sketches aligning with Cantata’s vision for modern, recognizable packaging.
➤ Detailed 3D modeling and animation to visualize the packaging.
➤ Iterative design based on feedback to achieve a refined, functional design.

Packaging Concept and Elements

In the initial phase of the project, I focused on creating the O-Gusto coffee packaging design, starting with the dieline. I developed the layout using Photoshop, ensuring accurate dimensions and structure for the final packaging. To make the design stand out, I applied photomanipulation techniques, combining multiple images and textures to create the visual appeal of each coffee variety.

For the design elements like the coffee capsule stickers, I used Illustrator to craft the precise circular shapes and icons that would sit on the capsules.

3D Modeling

The 3D model of the O-Gusto coffee box was created in Blender, focusing on precise dimensions and realistic details. The packaging design was applied as a texture to ensure an accurate representation, capturing all elements of the final product.

3D Animation

For the animation, I used keyframe techniques to smoothly rotate and reveal the packaging from different angles. I adjusted the lighting and reflections to make it look realistic, and planned the camera movements to make the animation flow nicely. The final animation was optimized for social media, creating an attractive presentation of the product.

Animation of Package Closing

For the animation, I focused on creating a dynamic and realistic closing effect for the O-Gusto packaging. Using Blender, I first rigged the 3D model of the box to allow smooth and controlled movement. I set up a simple rigging system with bones to control the box’s flaps, ensuring that they closed in a natural way, following the physics of a real-world box.

Conclusion

The O-Gusto packaging design was a seamless integration of creativity and functionality. By combining strong visual elements, clear branding, and professional design techniques, I was able to create a packaging system that effectively communicates the brand’s values and stands out on the shelves. This project reflects my ability to manage the entire design process, from initial concepts to final execution, ensuring both visual appeal and practicality.
